When someone we love has died, a beautiful, bespoke funeral is our final act of love and gratitude. I create personal, memorable services, which capture an individual’s character and tell the story of their life.
For me, there is great beauty in the heartfelt love expressed at a funeral. I weave the details of a person’s life, with the tributes, choice of readings and music to create a unique and special farewell. My aim is to make every funeral a safe space for family and friends to grieve and to celebrate their loved one’s life. I am particularly sensitive to the needs of children, who may not have attended a funeral before.
If a death has happened in tragic or unexpected circumstances, planning a funeral can seem overwhelming. Your funeral director and I are on hand to support you. When a funeral is right, I hope it will be a small but significant first step towards a more hopeful future.
Planning a funeral
At our first meeting, we’ll talk a lot about your loved one – their personality, life history, achievements, plus everything and everyone that was most important to them. We’ll also discuss your wishes and how the funeral will help you come to terms with your loss.
I offer both secular and religious funerals. You can select any poems, readings, hymns or songs you like and I will offer help and advice as you need it. You can be as unconventional or traditional as you wish. Funerals are changing and becoming much more individual. I encourage you to focus on what’s right for you, rather than being concerned about the ‘done thing’.
Most funerals I conduct take place at a crematorium, chapel or burial ground, but you are free to choose another venue. A funeral director will advise you about any practical considerations. I work regularly with many of the funeral directors in Dorset, Devon and Somerset. Together, we hope to make things simple for you, minimising your stress whenever possible.
I take great pride in creating a beautiful, personal funerals. Every service I write is different and unique.
Memorials & celebrations of life
A memorial service or celebration of life is a public occasion, typically held some time after a private, family funeral. It offers more time to reflect on a person’s life and legacy, after the immediate busyness of the funeral. This is helpful if the individual was very well-known, or had a full career and many interests. The memorial might include several tributes, a slideshow of photos and an exhibition of mementos or achievements. You can decide how formal or relaxed it should be – there are no rules. I have experience of different styles, so I can help you choose what’s right for you.
