Naming Days and Welcome Ceremonies celebrate the miracle of a new life and the start of an exciting new chapter of your family’s story. They are an opportunity for parents and god/guideparents to show their commitment to a child. The occasion strengthens bonds with the extended family and creates wonderful, shared memories for the future.
Naming Days are a beautiful and meaningful alternative to a church christening, if you feel that’s not right for you. They can be non-religious, or religious, in line with your beliefs and wishes. You can have the ceremony at any time, from your baby’s early weeks onwards.
A Welcome Ceremony is a lovely way to celebrate the arrival of new family members, such as adopted children or step-children. Families are changing and this ceremony celebrates the change and blesses the new family unit.
There are no constraints – the theme, content and style are entirely your choice. The venue can be anywhere that feels special and comfortable.
I will create a happy, family-friendly ceremony, which feels right for you. It will fit with your beliefs, traditions and your overall plans for the day.
When we meet, we’ll talk through what being a parent means to you and your hopes for your family. I will write promises to express your thoughts, or you can write them in your own words. Similarly, I will write promises for god/guideparents – to express their commitment to your child during his/her journey through life.
We’ll discuss the readings and music you might like and any special rituals, such as the Unity Candle ceremony.
As a reminder of this special day, I will give you a certificate and a presentation copy of the ceremony, plus a small gift for your child.
